Experimental Investigation of Thrust Force in the Drilling of Titanium Alloy Using Different Machining Techniques

Titanium alloy is a kind of hard-to-cut material widely used in aerospace, military and medical fields, mechanical drilling the primary technique for hole-making titanium materials. The force an inevitable concomitant phenomenon process thrust its most important component. During alloy, it crucial to understand fundamental characteristics changing rules optimizing parameters, improving machining quality predicting tool failure. In this paper, four different techniques, such as direct (DD), ultrasonic vibration (UVD), peck (PD) (UVPD), were drill small holes into Ti-6Al-4V was measured mean, maximum peak-to-valley value acquired from time-domain waveform. Then frequency-domain under techniques compared, with amplitudes during UVD UVPD investigated. results showed that, when compared DD, decreased mean Famean by about 18.6%, reduction effect more significant amplitude increased. variable velocity cutting antifriction reasons Famean. pecking motion had synergistic on reducing force; could simultaneously reduce Famax. When A chosen within range 2–3 μm, Famax reduced approximately 37% 40% comparison DD.
